If you’ve never taken a sports lesson as an adult, booking one can feel like a bigger step than it is. This is how a first lesson with us runs, minute by minute, so nothing surprises you.
Before you arrive
Bring court shoes, water, and a paddle if you own one. If you don’t own a paddle, we bring loaners, so please don’t buy anything for a first lesson. Wear whatever you’d wear for a brisk walk; what to wear and bring has the full short list. We meet at Fircrest Park or Harry Todd Park, or at a court near you for a travel fee, and the exact court is confirmed by email after you book.
The first ten minutes: we watch
Every first lesson starts the same way, with a few minutes of easy hitting so we can see where you are. A total beginner starts with grip, ready position, and getting rallies going. Someone from a racket sport gets a look at what transfers and what needs rewiring. A self-rated 3.5 plays a few points while we find the habit costing the most, which usually takes about five minutes to name.
The middle: one or two things, done properly
A first lesson is not a firehose. You work on one or two things with enough repetitions that they stick. For most new players that is the serve, the return, and keeping the ball in play; for improvers it is usually the third shot or the net game. You’ll hear the why behind every drill, not just the instruction.
The last ten minutes: play
We finish with live points so the new skill shows up in a real rally. A brand-new player leaves able to serve, return, and rally, which is enough for beginner open play that same week. An experienced player leaves with a clear diagnosis and a plan, which is often worth more than the hour itself. Either way you go home with two or three specific things to practice, written down if you want them.
The logistics
You pay at the lesson (cash, Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle, no prepayment), and you can cancel or move it free up to 24 hours before. First-timers get a discount: $10 off an hour, $15 off 90 minutes, $20 off two hours. Tick the box when you book.
